“What should we wear?” is the question I get asked the most by my clients. Hopefully, if you are a client of mine, or want to be, you have gotten a chance to look through my images and get a sense of my style. I am definitely not a ‘Sunday Best’ photographer. I aim to capture the real you, not the fake you. No one goes out to dinner with their family wearing matching white collar shirts and demin – ok maybe some people do, but most people don’t. And please don’t think I am making fun because, believe me, I’ve done it too……I’m sure all of us have a family portrait somewhere of everyone matchy-matchy. I get it, I totally get it…….you don’t want everyone clashing and you don’t want it to look like just a random picture that was thrown together with out any thought. So here are some thoughts =)
- don’t be afraid to let your personality show!
- don’t be afraid of prints! And don’t be afraid to mix prints – say you have 2 siblings, one could wear stripes, the other polka dots and it won’t look crazy, as long as the colors don’t clash and can bring them together.
- don’t wear white (It doesn’t photograph well….but yellow does!)
- avoid the temptation to match. You can wear different colors as long as they don’t completely clash you’ll be fine
- look at ads from places like Anthropologie, H&M and Boden to get inspiration
- bring accessories and layers: fun jewelry, hats, beanies, scarves, umbrellas, balloons, jackets, belts, sweaters, and anything else that will make your pictures more personalized!
